| The first thing the player must do in internet video poker is place a bet. After placing his bet, the player receives five cards. The player may choose how many of these cards he would like to keep or discard. Every card the player discards is replaced by a new card from the card deck. The hand that results from this becomes the player's final hand. As in every poker game, the player is hoping for the most valuable hand he can get, as the most valuable hand always wins.
